Samples must be received within 30 hours if testing for Total Coliform/E.Coli, and within 48 hours for Nitrate/Nitrite testing.
Samples for Total Coliform/E.Coli testing must be chlorine free. (See special container with preservative).
Sample volume must be adequate. Fill to the shoulder of the container, with a little bit of space left at the top for proper mixing.
Samples that show signs of damage, contamination, inadequate preservation, or loss of integrity may be rejected.
Sample containers and request forms must be filled out completely using water-resistant ink, such as a Sharpie.

Remove any screen from the faucet that is being used to obtain the sample
Sterilize faucet head with bleach.
Let water run prior to sampling for at least 5 minutes. (1 hour for a new well). Fill containers appropriately (see above).
DO NOT touch the inside part of the lid or containers, as this may lead to contamination.
Check lids to make sure they are on tight, and that the container is properly labeled.
Complete the form and mail via UPS prepaid postage or hand deliver to Bangor Water Testing Laboratory.
